Winter weekend wonder.

Last weekend we went away for a snowy weekend in the mountains.

image

So much snow fell overnight. It made our drive long but our morning sparkly.

image

I love when everyone else has to walk but I get to be pulled in my sled.

image

It was perfect snow for making snowballs.... and eating.

image

A trip to the mountains is incomplete without an afternoon in Vail.

image

The best view of any mountain town is from the shoulders of a dad.

I love my family, and I love the snowy mountains…. especially if the bright sun is shining on both at the same time!!!

Getting out in the rain.

It was raining again yesterday, but mom and dad were tired of being cooped up in the house.

So this is what you do when you are in town and it is raining and they close down the canyon road to your house for repairs after a historic flood.

image

First, go to church.

image

Then help mom and dad run errands...

image

.. at a store that gives away free raincoats.

image

Then spend time reading at a bookstore.

image

And when you finally make it home, curl up with a good cloth book and your favorite dad and twizzle.

I am just glad we have a warm dry house at the end of another rainy day.

To trek.

To trek, one must start with a reliable set of shoes.

image

Find some shoes that will do the walking for you.

To trek, one must find trustworthy companions.

image

My mom and dad are my favorite trekking companions. For now.

image

Twizzle isn't trustworthy and he didn't carry anything, but he still makes a good trekking companion.

image

Grampy and grandma trek very well.

To trek, one must have protection from the elements.

image

A portable roof is highly recommended.

To trek, one must rest when one is tired.

image

I got to rest and continue to trek. Best shoes ever.

To trek, one must follow a reliable path.

image

It helps if the reliable path is also beautiful.

To trek, one must have an end goal.

image

This lake is named Isabelle. It is lovely.

image

I wouldn't know, I slept right through it.

So, go have your own trek…. just try not to miss the beautiful lake at the end of the trail.

Mobility.

Over the past week and a half I have figured out something monumental. I no longer have to stay in one spot. I can move across the floor of my own volition!

image

This means I can crawl across the room, lick the walls, harass Twizzle,

image

stick my fingers in those electrical outlets and pull over music stands while trapped inside Oboe gig bags.

image

Watch out world! Secure your valuables and breakables and prepare to rescue me from all sorts of predicaments! I am a crawling baby!

Food.

For the last couple of months mom and dad having been giving me this thing called solid food.

image

At first mom suited me up and spooned mushy green stuff into my face.

image

It was tedious and, well, mushy.

image

So mom decided to allow me to just eat whatever they were eating.

image

So now I eat awesome food like this.

image

And most recently, the traditional family meal, cottage cheese pancakes.

It seems natural that babies should eat real solid food with their own fingers, even if most of it ends up on the floor.

Twizzle agrees.

The good things in life.

Allow me to share some of my favorite things with you.

First, my favorite toy is my rubber duckie. He goes swimming with me, but he is an all-around good guy.

image

Duckie is so squishy and blue. I love him.

I love harassing, I mean, playing with Twizzle. He is the best Chocolate Lab a baby could have.

image

Twizzle is so patient with me.

I love to suck on my thumb. It is so great that I have two of them and that they go with me everywhere.

image

Seven month photo shoot outtake.

And as much as I dislike naps, I enjoy finding new positions in which to take them.

image

Just expanding my horizons.

And finally, I love when dad gives me pieces of grass on our hikes. Oh, well, I suppose I should say both dad and hiking are also my favorite things… but poking mom with the long grass is definitely paramount.

image

Dad. Hiking. Grass.

As I get older, I love discovering the new wonderful things in life. Naps, shots, and not being allowed to play with iPhones are not on my list of wonderful things, but my list is very long and growing. It is good to be a baby.

Mother’s Day.

Today was a holiday known as Mother’s day. From what I can tell it involves dad taking me out first thing to get flowers and scones and lattees for mom.

image

I picked out those flowers. They looked tasty.

It also involves dad rolling out grass in the garden and mom taking pictures.

image

Twizzle had to be bribed to sit calmly next to me.

I don’t know if this is how all mom and dads celebrate mother’s day, but it was a nice day.

image

I love the new lawn dad planted today.

Happy Mother’s Day, mom. Aren’t you glad I made you a mother?

Poor Twizzle.

image

I am pretty sure Twizzle and I will be pretty great friends, and he might even let me ride him like a pony someday, but I get the feeling he is a little bit jealous of me. This might have something to do with morning cuddles in mom and dad’s bed. I can’t help it that I am small, sweet smelling and not furry. Sorry Twiz.
